In one of the most horrific crimes in the world, police in California, the US mother of twins, arrested two 10-month-old babies after their body was discovered in a state hotel.
Police believe the mother, Heather Langdon, dumped her two baby children, who were found in a hostel in central California, a night after police arranged for the mother and her two children to stay.
One of the shelters told Langdon that she could no longer stay in the shelter in the city of Tollayer because of its continuing problems, the Daily Mail reported.
"There was no previous contact with 37-year-old Langdon," said John Hamlin, director of the Tulare police station. He said mental health workers would be helped to assess whether they could harm themselves or their children.
He explained that the police did not want to leave the shelter before finding a place for the family on that rainy night, so they found a charity that showed willingness to pay the room for the mother and her twin children.
The next morning, the police department received an emergency call from the hostel stating that two babies were found drowning.
The competent authorities arrived at the site of the hostel and rushed to try to rescue the two children. They were then taken to the hospital, but they died there moments after arrival.
After questioning the mother and inspecting the room at the hotel, the police detained the mother while she sought to reach the father, but was unable to identify him.
Mother Heather Langdon, who was held without bail, faces death charges.
