The latest state announces the full availability of the Internet on phones
Cuba announced that its citizens will have full access to the Internet via mobile phones starting Thursday, to be the last countries to take that step.
Cuban government communications chief Mayra Arish said Cubans could now get the 3G service for the first time directly from the company on Thursday.
Until now, Cubans can only browse government e-mail via mobile phones.
Cuba, which is governed by communist rule, is one of the least developed countries in the world, but has been expanding rapidly since President Barack Obama and Raul Castro announced a breakthrough in bilateral relations in 2014.
In 2017, Cuba authorized domestic internet access and allowed hundreds of public Wi-Fi hotspots in parks and public squares across the country.
On August 14, 5 million Cubans were able to use the Internet on phones within eight hours of pilot broadcasting, before selling the service to the public.
This will be the first time that the country's Internet coverage has been provided directly between the company and its customers, who previously relied on the country's few Wi-Fi networks and were not available at home.
