14 members of the Iranian border guards kidnapped
Reuters quoted Iranian sources on Tuesday, that armed elements have kidnapped 14 of the Iranian border guards on the eastern border of the country with Pakistan,
No details were given on the identity of the hijacker and it was not immediately clear what caused the attack.
The Associated Press quoted an unnamed source as saying that two of the kidnappers were members of the Revolutionary Guard's intelligence service. The rest include seven members of the Basij, a volunteer wing of the Revolutionary Guard, as well as the Iranian border guards.
The kidnapping occurred under cover of darkness, before dawn on Tuesday, near the border crossing of Lukdan in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan.
The area has seen sporadic clashes between Iranian forces and people described as separatists, as well as drug smugglers.
In September, masked gunmen in uniform of soldiers fired at a military parade in the oil-rich southwestern Iran, killing 24 people and injuring more than 60.
