After Breakest .. Britain is open to "extension" of the transitional period
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain is open to the idea of extending the transitional period following the European Union's exit, EU Secretary of State Dominique Rapp said on Sunday.
He added that this is possible if that means that the European Union drops its proposals on the situation on the border between the British Northern Ireland and Ireland, a member of the bloc.
"If we need a bridge from the end of the implementation period to the future relationship, I am open to using a short extension of the implementation period," Rab told BBC television.
"It's a clear path when it's short, maybe a few months, and secondly, to know how to get out of it. It's clear that the Ireland issue has to be solved and it's possible," he said.
Rab also said he believed there was a need to reach an agreement on Britain's exit by the end of November in order to get legislation from the British parliament on time.
The EU calls for open borders between Ireland and Northern Ireland after the departure of Britain, which the British consider to cut Northern Ireland from their country and annex the territory to the Union.
