Flood sweeping the "floating city"
Tourist authorities in the city of Venice prevented access to St. Mark's main square, Monday, due to heavy rain and strong winds in most parts of the country, according to Agence France-Presse.
According to the authorities, "high water" reached a height of 156 cm in the afternoon, so that wooden platforms placed by authorities in the main corridors of the city to ensure safe passage of tourists.
The families carried the children on their shoulders to pass through the surrounding streets, while some tourists wore high boots and others chose to walk barefoot.
Water has risen above 150 centimeters five times in the country's history. In 1966, when the country was devastated by floods, the water level in Venice reached 194 centimeters.
