Paris Trump and Botten gather in a new summit
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump wants to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of celebrations marking the end of World War I on November 11, US national security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday.
"President Trump will be very pleased to meet you in Paris on the sidelines of the centenary of the truce," Bolton said at the start of his meeting with Putin in Moscow.
Putin said: "It would be useful to continue a direct dialogue with the President of the United States (...), for example in Paris, if the American side is interested in these contacts."
Trump and Putin will travel to Paris on November 11 to attend the anniversary of the end of the First World War, with more than 60 heads of state and government attending.
Trump and Bhutan had their first bilateral summit in Helsinki in July. Trump was then severely criticized in his country, which he was very lenient with his Russian counterpart.
On Monday and Tuesday, Bolton met senior Russian officials before Putin met him.
His visit comes after Trump announced the United States' intention to withdraw from the medium-range nuclear weapons treaty with the former Soviet Union during the Cold War.
