The Italian Football Federation is elected president after a year of vacancy

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) elected Gabrielle Grafina as its new president on Monday to replace Carlo Tavikio, who resigned last year after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Grafina, 65, former president of Italy's third division clubs, was the only candidate and received 97.2 percent of the votes of the assembly in Rome, the federation said in a statement.

A previous attempt to elect a new president in January failed after four rounds of voting when none of the three candidates, including Gravina, managed to get more than 50 percent of the votes. Since then, Temporary.

"I am thrilled to be elected to 97.2 per cent of the vote, but it is also a big responsibility," Grafina told the assembly. "Italian football is already aware of the importance of change."

"The fans and all the elements of the game expect clear answers, it will be like a race against time," Reuters said.
