Trump identifies the "greatest threat" he faces

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump publicly reiterated his criticism of the US Federal Reserve on Tuesday, saying it was his "main threat" because he was raising interest rates "very quickly."
"The main threat to me is the Fed ... because the Federal Reserve is raising interest rates too quickly and because it has too much independence," Trump told Fox Business.

Trump said he was not talking to the chairman of the financial body, Jerome Powell, because it was "independent". But he said: "I'm not happy with what he does."

A week ago, with a sharp drop in the stock market, Trump criticized the "bold" move taken by the US central bank, breaking the tradition of conservatism that his predecessors had taken.

The US Federal Reserve has been gradually raising interest rates since the end of 2015, after the US economy financed a decade of expensive free-pay to revive it after the 2008 financial crisis.
