At the request of Trump .. the resignation of the US Attorney General

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Wednesday he resigned at the request of President Donald Trump, who was sharply criticized after stepping down from investigating Russia's role in the 2016 US presidential race.
"At your request, I submit my resignation," Sessions said in a letter to Trump.

"We thank Attorney General Jeff Cheshens for his service and we wish him good luck," Trump wrote in a tweet on Twitter. He said Matthew Whitaker, a Justice Department official, would be on duty pending a permanent replacement.
