A gunman opened fire at a yoga gym in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, killing at least three people and injuring others, security officials said.
Local police chief Michael Delio told a press conference that the shooter was also killed, pointing out that preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was an individual act.
"At about 1747 hours, the Tallahassee police received a call, and when they arrived, the police found many victims who were shot," the security official said.
He added that the emergency services "transferred five victims to nearby hospitals," but one of them died in hospital from injuries.
"The other four victims are critical at this stage," he said. "We are working to identify them and inform their families."
"The gunman was killed, after he probably pointed his gun at himself," the police officer said, adding that as of 19:30 local time (2230 GMT) the man had not been identified.
