Erdogan announces death toll in southeast Turkey blast

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said seven soldiers were killed and 25 wounded in an explosion in an ammunition depot in the south-eastern province of Hakkari.
Hakkari governor's office said in a statement that the incident took place at a military base in the region of Shamdini, near the border with Iraq and Iran.

"We have seven martyrs and 25 wounded soldiers because of the explosion," Erdogan said before leaving for France to attend the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

He added that officials were searching the site of the incident, as part of an investigation to reveal the circumstances.

The Defense Ministry said on Friday that 25 soldiers were wounded in the incident, which occurred during the launch of heavy ammunition.

Earlier on Friday, a court in Turkey ordered a ban on publishing the news of the explosion "in order to prevent misinformation," according to a brief statement.
