North Korea expels US citizen, reveals cause

North Korea expelled a US citizen who entered its territory illegally last month, the official Korean News Agency reported Friday.
The man, identified as Lawrence Bruce Byron, has been detained since he crossed into North Korea from China on October 16, the agency said.

"During his interrogation he said he entered the country illegally under orders from the CIA," the agency said.

"The authorities concerned decided to expel him from the country," she said.

A man of the same name was arrested in South Korea while trying to infiltrate the inter-Korean border in November last year.

Byron was in his late fifties and came from Louisiana, and was later deported to the United States.

Media reports said he told South Korean officials he was seeking to facilitate talks between North Korea and the United States, although he was a normal citizen.<
