North Korea presents "first official picture" of leader

North Korea, Kim Jong-un's first official photo, showed a new phase in the young leader's rule, according to Western sources.
The official picture was shown on Sunday on North Korean television at a reception for the North Korean leader of a guest of Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel.

In the photo, Kim Basma appears in a Western-style suit and tie, which has been suspended alongside the image of the Cuban president.

This is the first time that an official photograph of the young North Korean leader has been presented.

According to the BBC, Kim Jong-un has always appeared more like a successor to his father than a leader of the country.

"It represents a new phase in Kim's political life," said Peter Ward, a North Korea expert. "It makes him a symbol equal to his father and grandfather, rather than a loyal follower of his predecessors."

These official photos are usually produced by Mansudai Art Studio in Pyongyang, where they are subject to strict rules.

The unveiling of the official image of the North Korean leader came after steps to consolidate his leadership in the leadership house.

Last year, North Korea announced that a monument would be built that would put Kim along with his father and grandfather, in the majestic mountain of Baekdu.
