Police reveal new details about the deaths of two Saudi girls

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York police have uncovered new details after two bodies of two Saudi men were found a week ago on the banks of the Hudson River in Manhattan, strapped together with a tape around the waist and ankle.
The two sisters, Tala Faree, 16, and Rotana Faree, 23, who lived in Virginia, "came down to the water alive" were probably said to have preferred suicide, Dermot Shea, chief investigator for New York police, told a news conference.

"At this stage, we do not have any credible information indicating any crime in New York, but it is under investigation," he said.

He said sources in Virginia told investigators that the two girls "preferred to harm themselves and suicide." A passerby found the bodies of the two young women on 24 October.

Investigators relied on witnesses' testimonies, illustrated evidence and the purchases of the sisters through credit cards to arrive at the idea that there was no suspicion of murder in their deaths.

On November 30, 2017, the last time a family member was seen was in Virginia. Xia said they had stayed in a shelter for victims of domestic violence until the end of August and then appeared to arrive in New York on September 1 before staying in a number of "luxury hotels".

The cause of death has not yet been officially determined.
