Russia "foiled" terrorist attacks during the World Cup

Russian authorities have foiled attempts to launch unmanned aerial attacks during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Russian authorities said.
Alexander Portnikov, head of the security services, said his men "took measures to detect and thwart terrorists' attempts to use drones in preparation, and to host various major political and sporting events, most notably during the World Cup." According to the Associated Press.

Russia has used thousands of police and sophisticated surveillance technology to guard the World Cup.

Last April, Russia said that "extremists" and soccer fans were planning to attack the World Cup in Samarra, but their plans were thwarted.
