Storms take more lives in Italy

The number of victims of heavy rains and storms across parts of Italy and causing widespread destruction has risen to 17, after two more deaths.
The German Civil Protection Agency said on Saturday that Germany had died on Friday after a lightning strike on the island of Sardinia, while another died in a hospital that was hit by lightning several days ago.

Many of the victims have lost their lives in the fall of trees.

Storms destroyed about 14 million trees, most of them in the far north, the Italian Agricultural Association (COLDERETI) said in a statement.

"We will need at least a century to get back to normal," she said in a statement.
