Liverpool tied his injured defender with a long-term contract

LONDON (Reuters) - Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has signed a new contract to keep him until 2024, Premier League leaders said on Monday.
The 21-year-old defender is expected to be out of action for six weeks due to a leg fracture, but he has done well before Dutchman Virgil Van Dyke in the Premier League's leading defense.

Gomez joined Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton for 3.5 million pounds ($ 4.5 million).

Gomez missed the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season after suffering an ankle injury during a national team match in March 2018. He then returned to the squad and became the German coach's favorite choice. Jurgen Klob and Van Dyke in the red team's defense.

"I have spent several years in the squad and enjoyed playing for Liverpool and testing what it means, so I am happy to have a chance to extend my contract here," Gomez told the club's website.
