A woman, a knife and 14 children are a terrible crime in a Chinese nursery

A woman carrying a knife attacked children at the gate of a kindergarten in southwest China's Chongqing city on Friday, injuring 14 of them.
The police announced on their official account on the Chinese social networking website, that the woman is 39 years old and knew her family name "Liu".

Police said they carried out the attack as the children were on their way back from morning exercises at 0130 GMT.

The victims were taken to the hospital, while guards and workers at the kindergarten were able to arrest the woman, she said, adding that she was investigating.

The statement did not say any possible motives for the attack.

Violent crime is rare in China compared to many other countries, especially in big cities, where security measures are tight, but in recent years there has been a series of knife and ax attacks, many of which targeted children.

Many attacks of this kind are blamed on people with mental illness or personal problems.
