After 13 years .. Germany to try "nurse the killer"

A German nurse has been tried on Tuesday for the murder of 100 patients in two hospitals in the country, from 1999 to 2005, in a case that has aroused public attention over the past years.
The trial of Niels Huigel, who is serving a life sentence for two murders, begins in the city of Oldenburg in northwestern Germany.

The case dates back to 2015, when Huigel was convicted of killing two people and trying to kill two others. The incident revealed a long series of murders committed by the nurse.

He was charged with murder during his service at a hospital in Oldenburg between 1999 and 2002 and at another hospital in the nearby city of Dalmenhurst between 2003 and 2005.

During this trial, he deliberately caused heart attacks for about 90 patients in Delmenhurst, because he "enjoyed the feeling of being able to revive them."

He later told investigators he had killed other patients in Oldenburg. The authorities then investigated hundreds of deaths.
