Two children were killed when a boat carrying migrants sank just 50 meters off the coast of western Turkey near the city of Bodrum on Monday, the Turkish coastguard said.
The Coast Guard said 17 people aboard the boat had been rescued while 17 others were found on the beach, without indicating the nationalities of the migrants, Reuters reported.
Turkey has become one of the main starting points for more than 1 million migrants who sailed to the EU in 2015.
The influx of migrants has been severely curtailed by an agreement between Ankara and the European Union in 2016, after hundreds of people died as they crossed into the Greek islands a few miles off the Turkish coast.
According to United Nations data, the total number of people who crossed the Mediterranean into the European Union, including those who travel longer and more dangerous than North Africa to Italy, reached 17,301 in 2017.
