F-16 fighter jets almost caused a disaster at an Israeli base




Israeli authorities opened an investigation into a mishap that hit an F-16 fighter jet that nearly caused a disaster inside an air base.
The newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" that the incident occurred last Wednesday, at the base of southern Israel, after the brake system of the aircraft to a defect that led to the exit of the fighter from control.

The newspaper said that the incident did not result in injuries, but the front of the fighter suffered some damage.

An initial investigation revealed that after the plane returned from a training mission, it was waiting at a predetermined point between the landing strip and the underground bunker where the aircraft were stored, but for reasons still unknown, the plane lost its ability to stop due to the failure of a hydraulic propulsion system.

The plane began landing on the runway, and in order to prevent the collision of another aircraft directly in front of it, in addition to a crew of technicians who were working in the area, the pilot was able to convert it to another corridor.

According to a statement issued by the IDF Spokesperson, the plane crash has since been repaired and returned to full operation.

"After the training mission, the brakes of the fighter aircraft were disrupted and the pilots were not hurt, but the aircraft was slightly damaged, and the problem has since been solved by the technicians," the statement said.
